What is a Metric Coach Screw?

A Coach Screw is a screw which has a square or hexagonal head and a threaded cylindrical shaft that tapers to a point at the tip. Coach Screws are similar to woodscrews but generally much bigger, metric ones have hex heads and imperial ones have square heads, available in mild steel and stainless.
They are primarily used for holding together heavy timber, fixing metal to timber and in some cases masonry or concrete.
